Buffalo County is located in the western part of Wisconsin and was established on May 2, 1853. The county covers an area of approximately 671 square miles, with the Mississippi River forming its western border. The county was named after the Buffalo River, which flows through it. The region was home to Native American tribes, such as the Dakota Sioux and the Winnebago, before European settlers arrived in the 1800s.

Initially, Buffalo County's economy was mainly driven by lumbering and agriculture, with sawmills and grain mills prospering along the rivers. Later, the agricultural focus shifted to dairy farming, and it remains an essential part of the economy today.

Fun Fact: Buffalo County is known for its picturesque landscapes, which include the stunning bluffs along the Mississippi River. These bluffs are part of the "Driftless Area," a region that was never glaciated during the last Ice Age. As a result, the topography of this area is unique, with deep river valleys, limestone cliffs, and abundant wildlife, making it an attractive destination for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers.
