Menominee County is located in the northeastern region of the great state of Wisconsin. It was established on July 3, 1959, making it the youngest county in Wisconsin. The county was created from the western part of Oconto County and the eastern part of Shawano County. It encompasses an area of about 365 square miles and is predominantly comprised of the Menominee Indian Reservation.

The county is named after the Menominee Native American tribe, who have inhabited the region for thousands of years. The Menominee Tribe is believed to be one of the oldest continuous residents of what is now Wisconsin. They are known for their rich cultural heritage, historical preservation efforts, and a strong connection to the land and forests.

Menominee County is the least populous county in Wisconsin, with a population of approximately 4,500 people as of the 2020 census. The economy is primarily based on forestry, agriculture, and tourism. The main industries are logging, sawmills, and related wood products manufacturing.

One fun fact about Menominee County is that it is the location of the Menominee Logging Camp No. 1, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. This site preserves an authentic logging camp from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, offering a glimpse into the region's rich logging history. Additionally, the county is known for its beautiful natural landscapes, with lakes, rivers, and forests that support a variety of recreational activities like fishing, hunting, hiking, and canoeing.
