Pierce County is located in the western part of the state of Wisconsin, United States. Established on March 14, 1853, the county was named in honor of President Franklin Pierce, who was serving as the 14th U.S. President at the time. The county seat and largest city in Pierce County is Ellsworth. The area spans 576 square miles, and as of the 2020 census, the population was approximately 43,369.

Pierce County's history dates back to the early 19th century when European-American settlers began to arrive, most notably from Ireland, Germany, and Scandinavia. Agriculture played a significant role in the early economy of the county, with wheat, corn, and dairy farming being essential sources of income for its residents. The arrival of the railroad in the second half of the 19th century contributed significantly to the growth of communities and the expansion of the local economy.
