Polk County, located in the great state of Wisconsin, was established on March 14, 1853, and was named in honor of the 11th President of the United States, James Knox Polk. The county covers an area of approximately 956 square miles and houses the beautiful Saint Croix National Scenic Riverway, which adds to the natural charm of this region.

The first settlers in Polk County were predominantly of Swedish, German, and Norwegian descent, who were attracted to the area by its fertile lands, and great potential for agriculture and logging. The county experienced significant growth during the mid-19th century as railroads were built, connecting the region with other parts of Wisconsin.

Balsam Lake, the county seat of Polk County, was officially incorporated as a village in 1885, and later became the economic center of the county. Polk County is known for its picturesque landscapes, rivers, and lakes. Agriculture, manufacturing, and tourism make up the economic backbone of the area.

A fun fact about Polk County is that it is home to the Gandy Dancer State Trail, which is a popular recreational trail extending over 98 miles.
