Sheboygan County is located in the eastern part of the great state of Wisconsin, along the shores of Lake Michigan. The area was originally inhabited by Native American tribes, such as the Winnebago, Menominee, and Potawatomi. European settlers began arriving in the early 19th century, often drawn by the potential wealth in the dense forests and proximity to Lake Michigan.

In 1836, the Wisconsin Territory was established, and Sheboygan County was officially created in 1846. The city of Sheboygan, serving as the county seat, was founded by Yankee and German immigrants who built up the community through the lumber industry, shipbuilding, brick-making, and furniture manufacturing. The county experienced a period of rapid growth as these industries flourished, attracting many other immigrants of various nationalities, including Dutch and Irish settlers. This provided Sheboygan County with a rich cultural heritage that can still be seen today.

During the 20th century, Sheboygan County continued to develop, with industries shifting from heavy manufacturing to diverse sectors including food processing, plastics, automotive parts, and other consumer products. It has maintained its vibrant economy and has become a destination for visitors due to its beautiful landscapes, Lake Michigan beaches, and recreational opportunities.

A fun fact about Sheboygan County is that it is known as the "Bratwurst Capital of the World." The city of Sheboygan is home to several bratwurst manufacturers and hosts the annual Brat Days festival, which showcases this popular sausage and celebrates the county's strong German heritage.
