Webster County is located in the central region of the great state of West Virginia. Established on January 10, 1860, the county was named in honor of Daniel Webster, a prominent American statesman, and Senator from Massachusetts. Its county seat is the town of Webster Springs. Prior to the arrival of Europeans, the area was inhabited by various Native American tribes, mainly the Cherokee, Shawnee, and Iroquois.

The early European settlers were primarily farmers, and they transformed the region's economy and landscape. Due to the county's abundant resources, including timber, coal, and natural gas, the area experienced growth throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

One fun fact about Webster County is that it is home to the Webster Springs Hotel, which was built in 1897. This historic hotel once attracted visitors seeking the reputed health benefits of the local mineral springs, including notable guests such as President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Today, the hotel continues to promote the area's culture and history, providing a glimpse into the story of Webster County's past.
