Lincoln County is located in the southwestern part of the great state of Wyoming. It was created on February 20, 1911, from parts of Uinta County. The county was named in honor of the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. Covering an area of 4,089 square miles, its county seat is located in Kemmerer. The county boasts a population of approximately 19,000 residents, as of 2020.

Lincoln County is rich in natural resources, with industries in the region primarily focusing on mining, agriculture, and ranching. The county is also home to the Fossil Butte National Monument, which is a preserved site exhibiting some of the most complete and detailed fossils of freshwater fish and various other extinct species. This has led to the region being nicknamed as the "Aquarium in Stone" and Kemmerer being called the "Fossil Fish Capital of the World."

Fun fact: The very first J.C. Penney store, originally called The Golden Rule Store, was founded in Kemmerer in 1902 by James Cash Penney. This location, which is now part of a national chain, is still operational and has become a popular tourist destination, serving as both a retail store and a museum.
