Sheridan County, located in the northern part of the great state of Wyoming, was created on March 9, 1888. It was named in honor of General Philip H. Sheridan, a Union army officer and civil war hero. The county has a rich history, with the first human inhabitants dating back around 11,000 years, including native tribes such as the Crow, Cheyenne, Sioux, and Arapaho.

Early European settlers arrived in the mid-1800s and found the fertile land favorable for ranching, farming, and mining. In the late 19th century, development accelerated due to the arrival of the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy Railroad, which helped the various mining, agricultural, and industrial activities to flourish. The economy of Sheridan County included cattle ranching, sheep herding, and coal and oil production.

One of the main cultural attractions is the Sheridan Rodeo, also known as WYO Rodeo, which has been held annually since 1931. Sheridan County is also known for its beautiful scenery and abundant wildlife, including Bighorn Mountains, Bighorn National Forest, and the Cloud Peak Wilderness Area.

A fun fact about Sheridan County is that Buffalo Bill Cody, the famous American scout and showman, auditioned many of the performers for his iconic Wild West show in the town of Sheridan. This connection to Buffalo Bill adds a touch of historical flair to the region, a testament to the rich heritage of the American West.
