Sublette County is located in the western part of the great state of Wyoming. The county, established in 1921, was named after William L. Sublette, an American mountain man and fur trader. It covers an area of 4,936 square miles, making it one of Wyoming's larger counties. The county's population, however, remains relatively small, with less than 10,000 residents.

Before European settlers arrived, the region was inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Shoshone, Ute, and Bannock. Fur trappers and explorers were among the first Europeans to visit Sublette County in the early 1800s. These early explorers were attracted to the area's abundant wildlife, especially beaver populations. The fur trade remained a significant part of the regional economy until the mid-19th century when it began to decline.

The area is known for its stunning wilderness, with the Bridger-Teton National Forest and the Wind River Range located within the county. Pinedale, the county seat, serves as a gateway to these outdoor recreation destinations, with tourists flocking to the region to enjoy hiking, fishing, hunting, and skiing.

A fun fact about Sublette County is that it is home to the Green River Rendezvous, an annual event celebrating the region's historical connection to the fur trade. The event features reenactments, demonstrations, and presentations related to the lives and skills of mountain men who gathered at the original Green River Rendezvous site in the early 1800s. This unique event acts as a symbol of the rich history and culture of Sublette County in Wyoming.
