Teton County, located in the northwest region of the great state of Wyoming, was established on February 15, 1921. It was named after the Teton Range, which in turn was named by French trappers who dubbed the mountains "les Trois Tetons," meaning "the Three Breasts." The southeastern boundary of the county forms part of the iconic Yellowstone National Park, while its western edge runs along the border with Idaho.

Before the arrival of European settlers, the region was inhabited by various Native American tribes, including the Shoshone, Crow, and Blackfoot. The Lewis and Clark Expedition (1804-1806) marked the first official U.S. exploration of this vast region, although the expedition itself did not pass through Teton County. Later, fur trappers and traders began traversing the area, contributing to widespread knowledge about the region's geography.

In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Teton County started to attract interest from cattle ranchers and settlers looking for new opportunities. The establishment of Grand Teton National Park in 1929, alongside the earlier designation of Yellowstone National Park in 1872, led to a surge in tourism and economic growth for the county.

Today, Teton County is known for its picturesque landscapes, featuring mountain ranges, rivers, and valleys that attract outdoor enthusiasts from around the world. Jackson Hole, its primary city, is a popular winter ski resort and gateway to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks.

Here's a fun fact: Teton County has the highest per capita income in the United States, bolstered by its wealthy and influential residents who are drawn to its natural beauty, outdoor recreational opportunities, and exclusive real estate offerings. Additionally, the county is home to the National Museum of Wildlife Art, which showcases a vast collection of artwork dedicated to celebrating the beauty and diversity of the world's wildlife.
