Weston County, located in the northeastern part of the great state of Wyoming, was officially created in 1890, originally being a part of Crook County. It is named in honor of Jefferson B. Weston, an early Wyoming politician and Wyoming State Auditor during territorial days.

The area has a rich history of farming, ranching, and coal mining due to its fertile lands and abundant natural resources. Additionally, the growth of the railroad industry in the late 19th and early 20th centuries contributed significantly to the development of Weston County.

One notable fun fact about Weston County is that it is home to the Vore Buffalo Jump, located between Sundance and Beulah. This archaeological site is a natural sinkhole used by Native Americans to hunt buffalo more effectively by driving them over the cliff into the sinkhole. Archaeological excavations show the site was in active use from the Late Prehistoric period, approximately 1500-1800 AD. The Vore Buffalo Jump provides valuable insights into the culture, hunting techniques, and lifestyle of the Plains Indians, making it a fascinating destination for history enthusiasts.
