Calaveras County is a county located in the central region of California, USA, and was founded in 1850. The county seat is the city of San Andreas.

The area that is now Calaveras County was originally inhabited by several Native American tribes, including the Miwok, Maidu, and Yokut. The first European settlers arrived in the area in the 1840s during the California Gold Rush, and the county experienced a surge in population and economic growth.

Calaveras County is that it is home to the world famous Jumping Frog Jubilee, an annual event that celebrates Mark Twain's short story "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County." The event, which has been held since 1928, features a variety of frog-themed activities, including frog-jumping contests, frog races, and a carnival. The event attracts thousands of visitors each year and has become an important part of the county's cultural heritage.

In addition to the Jumping Frog Jubilee, Calaveras County is also known for its beautiful natural scenery, including the Calaveras Big Trees State Park, which features giant sequoias and hiking trails, and the New Melones Lake, which offers boating, fishing, and other recreational activities.
