The Official California State Quarters

California State Motto: Eureka! I have found it
Front of the US quarter dollar coin   California State Quarter

The California state quarter is the 31st quarter released in the United States Mint's 50 State Quarters Program. It was released on June 7, 2005. The design was created by Donna Weaver and Charles L. Vickers.

The design features a grizzly bear walking in front of a setting sun. The bear is symbolic of the state's strength and independence. The star in the upper left corner of the design represents California's admission to the Union as the 31st state. The bear is also shown walking over the state motto, "Eureka", which means "I have found it". The grizzly bear is depicted standing on a patch of green grass, which symbolizes the state's agriculture. The design also features the year "1850", which marks the year of California's statehood. The coin also displays the inscriptions "California", "The Golden State", and "E Pluribus Unum".

The second California State Quarter

The California National Park quarter is part of the America the Beautiful Quarters program, which is a series of 56 circulating quarters issued by the United States Mint from 2010 to 2021. The program honors national parks and other national sites in each of the 50 US states, five US territories, and the District of Columbia.

The California National Park quarter was issued in 2021 and features Yosemite National Park. The quarter was designed by Chris Costello, who said he was inspired by the Half Dome and El Capitan climbing rocks. The obverse side features a portrait of George Washington, the first president of the United States. The reverse features a representation of the Half Dome with a view of Yosemite Valley in the background.

The Half Dome is a prominent feature of Yosemite National Park and is considered a symbol of the park. It is an iconic granite dome that rises more than 4,700 feet above the valley floor. It has been featured in many photographs and paintings, and its image has become widely associated with the park. The obverse side of the quarter also features a quote from John Muir, an influential environmentalist who helped promote the preservation of Yosemite National Park: "Climb the mountains and get their good tidings."

The California National Park quarter is a tribute to the natural beauty of the park and the legacy of John Muir. It is also a reminder of the importance of preserving and protecting our national parks.
