One interesting fact about Costa Mesa is that it was originally a farming community, known for its crops of beans, corn, and strawberries. However, with the growth of the nearby aerospace industry during World War II, the city began to transition into a more industrial and commercial hub.
Another historical anecdote from Costa Mesa is the creation of the Orange County Fairgrounds. In 1949, a group of local businessmen and community leaders petitioned the state government to create a fairgrounds in Orange County. Despite some initial resistance, the fairgrounds were eventually established in Costa Mesa and have been an important cultural and economic institution in the area ever since.
