- At its peak, Scotia had a population of over 1,500 people, and was the largest town in Humboldt County. Today, it has a population of around 850 people.
- Scotia's economy has been tied to the timber industry for over a century. The PL Company was the town's largest employer until the company was sold in 2008. Today, the town is home to several smaller logging and sawmill operations.
- Scotia is located in the heart of the redwood forest, and is a popular destination for tourists who want to see the majestic trees. The town has a small museum and visitor center, as well as a public park with hiking trails and picnic areas.
- Several movies have been filmed in Scotia over the years, including "Outbreak" and "The Majestic." The town has also been featured on several television shows, including "Modern Marvels" and "Ax Men."
