Sandy Springs is a city located in the northern part of Fulton County, Georgia. It was originally part of the Creek Indian Nation's territory, and later became part of the state of Georgia. One significant historical event that took place in this area was the Battle of Peachtree Creek, which was fought during the American Civil War.

On July 20, 1864, Union General William T. Sherman's troops engaged in a bloody battle with Confederate General John Bell Hood's soldiers near Peachtree Creek, which is now located near the border of Sandy Springs and Atlanta. The battle was part of a larger campaign known as the Atlanta Campaign, which took place from May to September 1864.

Overall, the Battle of Peachtree Creek was a decisive Union victory that saw Hood's troops suffer heavy losses. It forced the Confederates to retreat back to Atlanta and further strengthened Sherman's position in the ongoing war. Today, the area around the battle sites is marked by historic markers and is a popular destination for history enthusiasts.
