Johnson County, located in the great state of Georgia, has a rich historical background dating back to its formation. The county was created on December 11, 1858, and named after Georgia's own Governor, Herschel Vespasian Johnson, who was a prominent politician, attorney, and judge. Johnson County is situated in the southeastern region of the state, and its county seat is the city of Wrightsville.

Prior to European settlement, Johnson County was inhabited by various Native American tribes. In the early 1800s, it became home to European settlers, primarily those of English and Scottish descent. The region was primarily agricultural, with plantation-style farming of cotton, tobacco, and corn being the main livelihood for many settlers. Over the years, the region also saw some industrial and economic development.

The county also played a role in the American Civil War, although no major battles took place within its borders. Johnson County contributed soldiers to the Confederacy who fought in various battles.

A fun fact about Johnson County is that it was the birthplace of Herschel Walker. He was born in Wrightsville and went on to become a celebrated professional football player in the National Football League (NFL). Walker played from 1986 to 1997 and earned multiple Pro Bowl selections and All-Pro honors. He has been inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame and is considered one of the greatest running backs in both college and professional football.
