Georgia State Flower
Cherokee rose

The Cherokee Rose is an especially beautiful species of rose that is native to the southeastern United States and is the Georgia state flower. The Cherokee Rose is an evergreen shrub that can reach heights of up to 15 feet and produces white flowers with five petals and yellow centers. Its fragrant blooms attract bees, butterflies and other pollinators, making it an important part of the local ecosystem. The Cherokee Rose was adopted as the Georgia state flower in 1916, largely due to the efforts of Martha Berry, the founder of Berry College in Rome, Georgia. Berry chose the Cherokee Rose to honor the Native Americans who were forced to move west during the Trail of Tears. The rose is also known as the "Rose of Georgia" and is seen as a symbol of strength, resilience, and hope.
