Interested in some fun facts and history about Lithonia, GA?
Read on!
Lithonia is a small village that was originally named "Cross Keys" due to its intersection of two major Indian trails. The town was founded in 1845 and was later renamed Lithonia, which means "city of stone," due to the local granite mining industry. Lithonia became a major producer of granite and had several quarries in the area, which produced the distinctive pink granite used in building the Georgia State Capitol and numerous other buildings. Nowadays, Lithonia is a growing suburb of Atlanta with a population of just over 2,000 people. It has a charming downtown area with several antique shops, art galleries, and restaurants, attracting visitors from all over the region.
