Baldwin City is a small town located in Douglas County, Kansas, with a population of approximately 4,500 people. The town was founded in 1858 and is named after John Baldwin, a Free State settler from Lawrence, Kansas.

Baldwin City is known for being the home of Baker University, the oldest university in Kansas. The university was founded in 1858 and has an enrollment of around 1,000 students. The town also has a historic downtown area with shops, restaurants, and a microbrewery.

Baldwin City is also home to several festivals and events throughout the year, including the Maple Leaf Festival in October, which celebrates the changing of the leaves and features a parade, arts and crafts vendors, and other activities.
