My Philosophy

When I became a Realtor, I heard quite a bit of the typical corporate speak about numbers, bottom lines, maximizing commissions, and the like. I was also told time and again not to take an emotional interest in my clients' transactions.

But I come from a different background, a different school of thought, and this never sat well with me. I come from a career in non-profit management, working at a facility dedicated to the conservation of endangered primates, and our work there would have been wholly misguided if we had based our decisions on nothing but the bottom line. Instead, it was about doing what was right for people, for animals, and for the world at large, even if it called for a significant amount of personal sacrifice and commitment. We accepted the fact that in life's most important endeavors, the emotional component frequently transcends the financial.

I have carried this lesson with me into my real estate career. I am not a salesman; I don't think of myself as such and, quite honestly, am uncomfortable with that label. My job instead is to provide you with expertise, tools, information, and support as you engage in what is likely to be the largest financial transaction of your life. Whether you are buying or selling an inexpensive starter home or the dream house you waited years to call your own, I will be with you every step of the way, financially-- and emotionally-- committed to helping you reach your goal.

My Commitment to Conservation

Beginning in 2010, I am very proud to announce a new partnership. The Conservator's Center, or CCI, in Mebane, North Carolina, is a small non-profit facility taking on some very big work. Situated on 45 rolling acres in southern Caswell County, the Center is home to nearly 100 threatened and endangered animals, many of them large carnivores that were taken in from small zoos and private owners who were unable to care for them properly. On a shoestring budget, founders Mindy Stinner and Doug Evans, along with the rest of the crew at the CCI have built an incredible organization from the ground up, not only rescuing these animals from harm, but working to establish stable captive populations for long-term species survival, and offering unparalleled educational experiences for the visiting public.

Having devoted much of my own career to endangered species conservation, I recently challenged myself to find a way to give back, and to stay involved in that cause. To that end, I am announcing the following pledge: For every patron, friend, volunteer, or supporter of the CCI that buys or sells real estate and uses my services as an agent, I will immediately donate 10% of my commission from the sale back to the CCI. I am placing no limitations on this pledge; there is no cap on the number of transactions or the total amount that I will donate. I look forward to having you join me on this adventure!

Who Am I?

Born and raised in New Hampshire, I earned a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology from Washington University in St. Louis, then moved to Hillsborough in 2004. Back on the east coast, my arrival in North Carolina was a homecoming of sorts, and I immediately found myself drawn to all those things that had inspired creative minds from James Taylor to Pat Conroy. Positioned halfway between the mountains and the sea, the rolling hills, tall oaks, and crystal streams that meander through the Piedmont provide unlimited opportunity for outdoor recreation. We have the culture, convenience, and economic viability that comes from being part of a major metropolitan area, but with plenty of small communities where neighbors still know and care about one another. It is my love for this place, and my desire to share it with others, that led me into real estate. This area is now my home, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
