Then read on!

One interesting historical fact about Rochester, Minnesota is that it is best known as the home of the Mayo Clinic, a world-renowned medical facility. The clinic was founded by Dr. William Worrall Mayo in the late 1800s and has been a center for medical innovation and research ever since.

Interestingly, the Mayo family's first connection to medicine dates back to an incident in 1863 when a deadly tornado swept through Rochester. William Worrall Mayo, who was a local doctor at the time, treated victims in a makeshift hospital set up in the town's post office. His two sons, William and Charles, both helped out as well, and the experience inspired them to pursue careers in medicine.

Many years later, in 1919, the Mayo Clinic was officially established as a non-profit medical center that has since grown into a global institution. Today it provides world-class medical care to thousands of patients every year and continues to be a leader in research and treatment innovation.
