Colstrip is a small town in southeastern Montana, located in Rosebud County. It is best known for its coal-fired power plant, which has been a major source of employment for the region. Colstrip was founded in the 1920s as a mining town, but the focus shifted to electricity generation in the 1970s. The plant is surrounded by a large mine, which provides the coal for the plant, and the two facilities together employ many of the town's residents. Colstrip has a population of around 2,300 people and features a few small businesses, restaurants, and shops. It also has a park and a golf course, as well as access to outdoor activities like fishing and hunting in the surrounding area.
