Brownville is a village located in Jefferson County, New York. It has a population of around 1,100 people and covers an area of approximately 1 square mile. The village was incorporated in 1829 and was named after Jacob Brown, a war hero who served in the War of 1812. Brownville is known for its beautiful historic homes and buildings, including several that date back to the early 19th century. The village is also home to several parks and recreational areas, including Brownville Park and the nearby St. Lawrence River.
