Palmerton is a borough in Carbon County, Pennsylvania. The town has a population of around 5,000 people and was founded in 1898 by the New Jersey Zinc Company as a company town. The town was named after the zinc company's first president, Samuel Palmerton. Palmerton is known for its outdoor recreational activities, particularly hiking and biking along the Lehigh Gorge Trail. The town also hosts the Palmerton Zinc Festival every August, which celebrates its history in the zinc industry. However, the town has a history of environmental contamination due to the zinc industry's operations, and efforts to clean up the area are ongoing.
