Yankton is a city in southeastern South Dakota, located on the Missouri River in the Lewis and Clark Region. It is the county seat of Yankton County and has a population of approximately 14,000. Yankton is known for its historic downtown district, which features many well-preserved 19th century buildings, including the Mead Building and the Dakota Territorial Capitol. The city is also home to Mount Marty University, a four-year, Catholic liberal arts college that was established in 1936.
