Pacific Beach, Washington was founded in 1889 by the Pacific Beach Land Company. The area was also known as "the playground of the Northwest" due to its many recreational activities such as fishing, clamming, boating, and swimming. Today, Pacific Beach is home to many annual events such as the weekly farmers market, the Pacific Beach Summer Festival, and the Blessing of the Fleet in June. It is also home to a variety of restaurants and shops, as well as a number of parks and beaches.
