Clarkston, Washington is located on the historic Lewis & Clark Trail, near the confluence of the Snake and Clearwater Rivers. The town was established in 1859 when gold was discovered nearby at what is now known as the Gold Hunter Mine. Another fun fact about Clarkston is that it was once home to the last remaining steamboat on the Columbia River, the Spokane. The Spokane was built in nearby Lewiston, Idaho in 1907, and ferried passengers and goods between Lewiston and Portland until it was retired in 1938.
