1. Dallesport, Washington was founded in the 1880s and has a long history of being an important port town on the Columbia River.
2. The town was named for its location at the mouth of the Dalles Canyon.
3. In 1895, Dallesport was the site of a dispute between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and local Native Americans, who were protesting the Army's attempts to build a dam on the river. The Corps eventually decided to abandon their plans and the dispute was resolved without violence.
4. During World War II, Dallesport was home to a military anti-aircraft base.
5. In 1948, Dallesport opened the first marina on the Columbia River and it quickly became a popular destination for fishing, boating, and water recreation.
6. In 1994, the town of Dallesport was incorporated into Klickitat County.
7. In 2012, Dallesport became the site of a major construction project when a new bridge was built across the Columbia River to connect Washington and Oregon.
