After high school he studied business management and marketing at Green River College, then spent seven years playing music for audiences across the west coast. He later went to work for an aerospace manufacturer where he quickly worked his way into a production and quality management roll for thirteen years. During that time Derrick learned the value of guiding people through complex processes, and multifaceted purchase negotiations. His love for guiding people through life-changes led him to a career in real estate.
