Let me start by saying John is incredible. I think about a real estate agent in the era of redfin, Zillow, etc and I wonder what else they can do besides provide entry into houses that can be previewed on the internet. The key to a great real estate agent is the relationship. They know you and what you want. They have the best details about what it will take to get a deal done. They personalize the experience in a way that an internet webpage cannot. John has this in spades. This doesn't even include his expertise on the sell side of a deal. We are happy with our experience using The McKay Home selling team. This is not our first experience with the team. One of the reasons we chose them was the level of trust we already had established selling one of our rentals. John and his team listen closely and pay attention to what youre saying and help you understand any of the process you may not be familiar with. Buying just bare land was a first for us and without Johns help we wouldnt have gotten the property. They made things happen during crunch time getting our offer in even as we were ready to take off on a flight, literally sitting on the tarmac with the plane being delayed they got our signatures and when we landed 5 hours later our offer was accepted. We are so grateful to John and his team that this happened. As a team they all worked hard during closing to get all documentation and anything that they could to make sure due diligence was performed on our behalf. They talked us through things to ask the county and checking with other municipalities to make sure no stone went unturned too.

Great guythe BEST agent. He absolutely nailed a sale and then a buy for me. He increased the surrounding market when he sold our home in inner southeast portland in 2021. When we were ready to buy a home about a year later, he and his team threw all their time at finding me a place in an area outside of Portland though still close. We found that house in one weekend and John negotiated the sale price down when everything was selling for way over the asking price. Hes an assassin.
We had met John through neighborhood and events and felt he really cared for our community. It was our first time selling a house so we needed a lot of patience and guidance. The same technical things that made our eyes glaze over, made his eyes light up. I can't speak highly enough of John Mckay as my real estate agent. Selecting an agent to sell your house can be a bit tricky, to say I got lucky with John would be a huge understatement, a flyer at my door haha. But after reviewing his home sales in my neighborhood and positive reviews from others using his services, I felt he could be the man for the job. Right from the get go upon meeting John, I knew I made the right decision, extremely professional, knowledgeable of the neighborhood, comp values, detail orientated, honesty and bonus points for having a great personality. I was able to put together a list of small items to address in regards to repairs needed to be done, and cosmetic enhancements to give the house more curb appeal. With John's help I was able to trim the list, add a few issues I overlooked, and put together a plan to get these tasks accomplished. Due to the fact that I already had vacated the property, without John's help it would've been virtually impossible to get my list completed. He had contractors and handymen lined up, basically had an answer for any issue we faced. I was amazed at the results of all the projects we were able to complete before listing the property, all done in a timely and efficient manner. The listing and offer negotiations went even better, John was able to get quite a bit more money for my property than I could've ever imagined. When I first contacted John, I was only entertaining the idea of selling my FoPo house. He came over and spent over a hour answering my many questions about the process, provided tips for home improvements that would offer the best ROI and even gave me a local contractors that would do the needed work (during Covid) at a reasonable price. 9 months later I contacted him again to list my house. I put 12 years of blood, sweat and tears into restoring that house- a 1929 Mediterranean Revival fixer (a rental for 30 years prior to buying it), so I was emotionally attached and wanted to understand every facet of the selling process. I had a lot of questions throughout the duration it was listed. I also underestimated the amount of time/effort involved in packing up 95% of our stuff to show the house- so I pushed the listing date 3x before I was ready.
