I am a first-time home owner. I would say that when the journey from apartment life to purchasing a house began, I was in a mode of I anted to own a house, but I didn't 'know it yet.' Doug exhibited tremendous patience with me as we looked at houses. He let me explore options I felt appealing, but was also honest when he felt I needed his guidance. He stopped me from making some really bad decisions. Doug was able to get me into a house that's in a great location, and has mostly all-new appliances. He knew I was new to the experience, and wanted to mitigate the out-of-pocket costs as much as possible. I love the house I'm in now. Looking back, I realize that I would have had a ton of problems with most, if not all the houses that were my specific idea to buy. To be more specific, the house I'm in now was not my first choice at the time, but now I couldn't imagine living in any of the other houses I had wanted to before. One of the things I was hung up on a little bit, as silly as it seams, was the kitchen/living room space. I had wanted those to be more separate, but now realize that an open concept, at least in my house now, lends better to socializing and entertaining. Another, more practical example is the fact that the house was 'flipped' by someone he knows. Again, I've got all-new appliances. To contrast, my neighbors next door had to replace a lot of appliances themselves, and they are a young family with two working parents and a young daughter. I can't imagine they had a lot of down time during the moving-in, and transitioning period. I felt lousy for them being so busy. Doug made it easy on me. These are just two examples of a person who is new to something owing their happiness to a professional who knows the business. My advice to anyone who is lucky enough to reap the benefits of Doug's experience, is at least consider his suggestions. He probably knew more about me in the first five minutes of our first meeting that I could have imagined. I'm not going to call it a 'spidey sense,' but he's got enough experience talking to people and listening to know what is best for them in the long run. Another, more important piece of advice is, if there are deadlines he needs you to meet with paperwork, meet those deadlines. Do not miss them. He knows about grants, discounts, and other wonderful benefits that will really ease the initial expenses you will incur when buying a house. The most important thing about Doug Browning is that he genuinely cares about his clients, and uses that feeling as a reason to reach out to people in need. One day, in the middle of the Covid-19 crisis, I get this text message on my phone: Hello Nathan, this is Doug Browning. I hope you're having a great day. I'm just reaching out to people to let them know if you know someone who needs an errand run, I'm glad to do that.
