Bristol Bay Borough is located in southwest Alaska and covers an area of approximately 10,000 square miles. The population of the Borough is approximately 7,000 people, with most living in the villages of Dillingham, Naknek, King Salmon, and South Naknek. The majority of residents are Alaska Native or American Indian, with smaller numbers of Caucasians and Asians.

The climate in Bristol Bay Borough is cold and wet with temperatures ranging from 30 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Summers are short but pleasant, while winters can be extremely cold and long.

Living conditions in the Borough vary depending on the location and lifestyle of the residents. Most live in small houses or apartments that are heated by wood-burning stoves. Access to running water and electricity is limited in some areas, as is access to health care services.
