The Official Alaska State Quarters

Alaska State Motto: North to the Future
Front of the US quarter dollar coin   Alaska State Quarter

The Alaska state quarter was created in 2008 as part of the United States Mint's 50 State Quarters Program. The design features a grizzly bear emerging from an Alaskan landscape, with a mountain in the background, and the inscription "The Great Land" above it. The design symbolizes Alaska's wild and rugged landscape, as well as its wildlife and natural resources. Other symbols on the coin include a midnight sun, the North Star, and the state flower, the forget-me-not. The year of issue, 2008, is also included in the design.

The second Alaska State Quarter

The Alaska National Park quarter was released by the United States Mint in 2021 as part of the America the Beautiful Quarters Program. It features the Denali National Park and Preserve, a 6 million acre park located in the Alaska Interior. The reverse of the quarter features a Dall Sheep standing on a rocky outcropping with Mount Denali in the background. The inscriptions include "DENALI," "ALASKA," "2021," and "E PLURIBUS UNUM." The obverse of the quarter features the John Flanagan portrait of George Washington, as required by law.

The Denali National Park and Preserve was established in 1917 by President Woodrow Wilson, making it the first national park in Alaska. The park is home to a variety of wildlife, including grizzly bears, caribou, wolves, and Dall Sheep. The sheep are a symbol of the park, and the focus of the quarter design. The Denali mountain range, which includes Mount Denali, is also a symbol of the park and can be seen in the background of the quarter.
