Crenshaw County, Alabama
.Crenshaw County, located in the great state of Alabama, was established on November 30, 1866. It is named after Anderson Crenshaw, a prominent judge, and politician in Alabama during the early 19th century. The county was created from parts of Butler, Coffee, Covington, Lowndes, and Pike counties during the Reconstruction era after the Civil War. The county seat was initially set in Rutledge, which served as its temporary location until a more permanent site was chosen in Luverne in 1893.
Crenshaw County has a rich history, and it played a significant role in the growth of the timber industry in Alabama. Lumber mills and associated railroad developments in the late 19th and early 20th centuries helped to boost the local economy and population growth.
One fun fact about Crenshaw County is that it is home to the historic "Old Three Notch Road," a Native American trail from the days of the Creek Indians which later transformed into a stagecoach route in the early 19th century. The Old Three Notch Road saw significant use during the Creek War of 1813-1814 and remains an important historical site in Alabama.
