Jackson County is located in the northeastern part of the state of Alabama. It was established on December 13, 1819, and was named after General Andrew Jackson, who later became the seventh president of the United States. The county is a part of the larger region known as the Cumberland Plateau and has a rich history rooted in its Cherokee heritage.

The area was once inhabited by the Cherokee Indians until their forced removal during the infamous Trail of Tears in the 1830s. In 1832, the Sequoyah Caverns a series of over 100 caves and rock shelter sites were discovered. These caverns were vital resources for Native Americans living in the area and later served as a shelter for soldiers during the Civil War.

In the 19th and 20th centuries, Jackson County experienced economic growth due to its natural resources. Iron, coal, and timber industries flourished, and the construction of the Bellefonte Nuclear Generating Station helped boost the local economy in the late 1900s.

One fun fact about Jackson County is that it is home to the Unclaimed Baggage Center in Scottsboro, which serves as a one-of-a-kind shopping experience where visitors can browse and purchase items from lost and unclaimed luggage. It has grown to become one of Alabama's most popular tourist attractions, with over a million visitors annually.
