1. Hayneville played an important role in the Civil Rights Movement, specifically during the 1965 Selma to Montgomery marches. The third and final march, which successfully made it to Montgomery, passed through Hayneville, where Viola Liuzzo, a white civil rights activist, was murdered by members of the Ku Klux Klan.

2. Hayneville is the county seat of Lowndes County and has a population of approximately 900 people. The town has a rich history, with several buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places, including the Lowndes County Courthouse, which was built in 1859 and is still in use today.
