1. Notasulga was once a prominent railroad town and was named after the Muscogee (Creek) Indian term "Na-Toshe," meaning "a place of many springs."

2. It was the birthplace of Ralph "Shug" Jordan, the former head football coach at Auburn University, and is now the site of the Shug Jordan Parkway.

3. Notasulga was also the birthplace of Forrest "Fob" James, who served as the Governor of Alabama from 1979 to 1983 and again from 1995 to 1999.

4. Notasulga was once a booming center for the production of handmade brooms, which were sold all over the country. Today, the Broom Museum celebrates the village's broom-making heritage.

5. The community holds an annual Syrup Sopping Festival which celebrates the traditional process of boiling sugar cane juice.

6. Notasulga was the location of an important Civil Rights case in 1965, after a group of Black parents sued the Macon County School Board for refusing to integrate the local schools.

7. The town has a rich musical history, having produced a number of blues musicians and being the birthplace of musicians such as Tommy Shaw, a member of the rock band Styx, and John Abercrombie, a renowned jazz guitarist.
