Ashley County, located in the great state of Arkansas, was established on November 30, 1848. It was named in honor of Chester Ashley, a prominent Arkansas lawyer, and United States Senator. The county is nestled in the southeastern part of Arkansas with Hamburg as its county seat. The area covered by Ashley County is approximately 939 square miles.

A significant event in the history of Ashley County was the introduction of railroads in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The railroad construction enabled the growth of the timber industry, making it the backbone of the county's economy. Additionally, agriculture and farm operations have always been central to the local economy, with the production of cotton, soybeans, and rice being prominent.
