Greene County is located in the northeast corner of the great state of Arkansas. It was named after Revolutionary War General Nathanael Greene. The county was officially established on November 5, 1833, and has a rich history that includes various Native American tribes, such as the Quapaw and Osage, who inhabited the region prior to European settlement.

The Crowley's Ridge, a unique geological formation, runs through Greene County and consists of an upland formation that separates the western alluvial plain and the eastern coastal plain of the Mississippi Embayment. European settlement in the county began in the early 1800s, primarily for farming and agriculture. Throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, Greene County experienced growth due to the expansion of the railroad, which helped connect the area with the greater Arkansas region and beyond.

Paragould, the county seat, was founded during the railroad boom in 1883 and is a portmanteau that combines the names of two prominent railroad men, J.W. Paramore and Jay Gould. Paragould is an important cultural and economic hub in Greene County and continues to play a critical role in the region's development.

One fun fact about Greene County is the presence of the Eight Mile Creek Mounds, a group of prehistoric mounds that date back to nearly 3,000 years. The mounds, found in the northwestern part of the county, signify that the region had a vibrant Native American presence and culture long before European settlement.
