Coal Hill is a small town in Johnson County, Arkansas with a population of approximately 1,000 residents. The town was founded in the late 1800s as a coal mining community and was named after the large hill of coal in the area. Today, the town is largely residential with some businesses and a few historic landmarks. Notably, the Coal Hill School was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009 for its architectural and cultural significance.
