Hey there Im Cheryl, married to Brent (hes a retired California police sergeant) and our girl Kennedy is 12 and rides horses. We moved to Buckeye Arizona summer of 2018.
We came from the inland empire (Im originally from chino hills) and we have LOVED LIVING HERE!!!
The West Valley is a hidden gem here in Arizona. Lots of master planned community options or farm land options.
We chose the verrado community for all the amenities and activities they have all year. Plus we love being able to drive our golf cart all over - to the gym, grocery store, friends houses

Everyone asks if we miss California. So heres the deal:
The weather is very similar to the inland empire year round. We are usually within 10-20 degrees.
Yes we have LOTS of trees and grass and greenery out here. There are dairy farms and cotton farms just south of us too. And mountains. And yes cactus too . I have literally only seen 2 scorpions in almost 2 years. So theres that.
its hot in July August and September. Dress lightly. Bring water everywhere. Find a pool or lake and jump in. Or stay inside. Throw up a messy bun. It goes fast and its not that bad. Plus theres no humidity so its not torture and you acclimate fast.
Buckeye is one of the first cities you get to when you drive in from Cali on the 10 freeway. It takes my husband 4 hours to get to work in San Bernardino or if we need to visit family. Its not that far. Buckeye is an old horse town on the south side with the worlds oldest rodeo. But also lots of new builds and opportunities here as well. We are about 20 minutes from the power plant (which I hear is a great place to work). We are about 30 minutes to downtown Phoenix and the airport. About 45-60 minutes from scottsdale.
Traffic: Arizona freeways are BEAUTIFUL. Traffic is nothing compared to California. Usually if the map says 30 miles away it actually is a 30 minute drive.
Theres a beautiful lake called hidden lakes just 10 minutes south of us that has live music, food trucks, camping and fishing
Theres a HUGE lake called lake pleasant about 40 minutes north of us for boating, kayaking, swimming, floating, camping and spending the day. We take our canoe often up for the day. Its beautiful there. And clean. And you can pull your truck right up to the water
Theres lots of different school opportunities here as well that arent too far from Buckeye if youre are looking for something beside public schools.
theres always something to do for the kids- jump places, parks, malls, movies, etc
theres plenty of churches here
I feel safe letting my child play out front
if you want snow, you can drive 2 hours north to flagstaff and be in the mountains
if you want beach, some people drive 3 hours south to rocky point Mexico ( I prefer the local lakes)
Ak-chin pavilion has incredible concerts all year long
all your shopping needs are less than an hour away. Even ikea is 59 miles away from me and it took 59 minutes
Tons of boutique and fun hotels for staycations (think of Scottsdale as Palm Springs to us Californians)
small town parades and events like Buckeye air show coming up
we have been here almost two years and have BARELY begun to see and do and explore all that Arizona has to offer
people are NICE here. They talk to eachother.
we spend most the year doing indoor-outdoor living: doors or windows open all day
theres tons of birds here
theres tons of SPACE here
