La Paz County is located in the western part of the great state of Arizona. Established on January 1, 1983, La Paz County is relatively young compared to other counties in Arizona. The county was formed from the northern part of Yuma County, making it the first county to be formed in the state since 1891. The county was named after the Spanish word for "peace," in recognition of the town of La Paz, an important settlement during the gold rush era, which now lies beneath the waters of the Colorado River due to changes in the river course.

La Paz County encompasses an area of approximately 4,513 square miles, and its county seat is the small town of Parker. The county's population, as of the 2020 census, is around 21,000 residents. The area is known for its agricultural and tourism industries, as well as its stunning natural beauty that includes the Colorado River, which forms the western border of the county.

One fun fact about La Paz County is that it is home to the famous Parker Dam, also known as the "deepest dam in the world." Constructed between 1934 and 1938, the dam stands 320 feet tall, with 235 feet of it extending below the riverbed to embed into the bedrock. Parker Dam's primary purpose is to provide hydroelectric power and manage water storage for the Colorado River, which supplies water to millions of people across the southwestern United States.
