As a 13 year old I had already lived through a revolution and a war, and jumped at the first opportunity to set sail to America at my mom's suggestion. She stopped at nothing in order to give her family a better a life, and continues to be my role model to this day. She finished and sold over 30 housing projects started by my civil engineer father, who we unfortunately lost too soon. Her tenacity and work ethic inspired me, and her success was my first glimpse into the lucrative possibilities real estate could provide. After graduating from San Francisco State University, I got married and moved to sunny San Diego. I had put myself through college, and quickly realized that paying my tuition was a far easier pill to swallow than paying the monthly rent. Why would one essentially give away money each month without receiving any ownership potential? That sentiment drove us to borrow our first down payment to buy a cozy condo. And with a growing family over the years, we kept upgrading until finally settling into a 4700 square foot home on a half acre lot in Carmel Valley, a far cry from our days as renters.
