I consider myself one of those people who are extremely fortunate to be doing exactly what they were meant to do in life. In my case, I believe that my life path, including my previous careers, my education, and hobbies all could lead me to one specific final destination. In other words all the roads I travelled could only lead me to where I am today, doing what I am doing right now and where I am and having a great time doing it. What is that you might ask . . . simply helping my friends to buy, invest, and sell residential real estate!
This career of being a Realtor you could say is a part of my DNA, in some fashion I was genetically pre-ordained to be involved in this wonderful industry.
You see my story really starts with my fathers history and even before that with my grandfathers life experiences. His actions, efforts and interest have directly shaped my life that if it was not for my grandfather and his pursuits, my life would have turned out much differently. Back in the 1930 and 40s my grandfather, Mun On Chun, was heavily involved in the Chinese community in Hawaii. When the war ended in 1945 you can imagine that the lending practices of banks were highly disorderly for all immigrants, but especially immigrants of Asian descent. It was nearly impossible for an Asian person to even be able to find someone to sell them a house, much less provide the financing for their home. So in 1945 my Grandfather along with 6 other Chinese community leaders formed an organization called Finance Factors. This company was a vertically integrated solution for immigrant families to be able to finance and buy a home of their own.
My father having such an incredible example of perseverance, sacrifice, and service to others, he also carried on the family tradition of service and investing in real estate.
These two men work ethic, commitment, and achievement has granted me a level of privilege and opportunity that I would never have been able to enjoy without their efforts. Due to these two men I have been able to witness business transactions my whole life, allowing me to concentrate on my studies that led me to USC where I received an education in business with an emphasis in Entrepreneurship. I graduated with a BS in Business and remained close with many friends from USC.
I have been working in residential real estate for a few years now and I truly find it rewarding! Beyond the obvious of helping people find their homes, one of my favorite transactions was with a couple investing in a property for the specific purpose that the income from this property was going to pay their childs college tuition.
I have a terrific little girl, Lucy. She is 10 and keeps me on my toes. We stay busy with numerous groups in our town and enjoy always being able to join in an activity. As a member of the Napa Valley Country Club, I may be found enjoying a game of golf.
I believe that is a wonderful way to socialize, as with the clubs Im involved with. I enjoy spending time with little Lucy around the pool and conversing with the many onlookers. I remember when little Lucy was born it was life changing. I, as an adult, thought I knew my plan of action for my life. Well when a new life of your blood comes into the picture that plan is no longer valid; for the plan only is to protect and provide for your child. All ones focus must remain on that and working to successfully fill that goal. This is probably the most important thing a parent can do. Yes, I would enjoy travelling more and exposing Lucy to more culture but well see what life brings!
In my life I have been fortunate to have many personal and professional mentors. A common trait to all of them is training to the point of enabling people to use the tools they need to succeed. This is what I firmly believe as well, everyone should be allowed to be successful however they define success and be able to help others.
