1. Located in Yuba County, Marysville was originally named Jubaville after its founder Charles Covillaud's wife, whose nickname was Jubal. However, the name was later changed to Marysville after Covillaud's partner, William S. Macy's wife, Mary.

2. In the early 1850s, Marysville was one of the largest cities in California with a population of more than 10,000 people, and it was even briefly considered as the state capital.

3. The city was ravaged by several fires in the late 19th century, including the 1884 Great Fire of Marysville, which destroyed most of the commercial district.

4. Marysville is home to Ellis Lake, a man-made lake that covers 25 acres in the center of the city. Originally a gold-mining pit, it was flooded in the late 1800s to create a water reservoir.
