A fun and interesting fact about Oceanside is that it has the longest wooden pier on the West Coast, extending 1,942 feet into the Pacific Ocean. It was built in 1888 and has undergone several renovations over the years.

As for a historical event, in 1902, Oceanside suffered a catastrophic fire that destroyed nearly the entire downtown area. The fire started in a livery stable on Tremont Street and quickly spread, fueled by dry winds and wooden buildings. Over 90% of the downtown buildings were destroyed, causing $500,000 in damages. Despite the destruction, Oceanside rebuilt and prospered in the following years.
