Fontana is a city located in San Bernardino County, California, United States. It was founded in 1913 under the name of San Bernardino County's Unit No. 2. At the time, the city was mostly rural and agricultural, with citrus, wheat, and poultry farms. In 1920, the city was officially named Fontana, after the Italian word for "fountain."

In the following years, Fontana experienced significant growth due to the construction of new highways, the expansion of the Kaiser Steel plant, and the influx of new residents looking for work in the region's industrial sector. Fontana became one of the most important industrial and transportation centers in Southern California.

During World War II, the Kaiser Steel plant became a critical provider of steel, and the city experienced a massive influx of workers to support the war effort. In the post-war period, Fontana continued to grow rapidly, with new residential and commercial developments sprouting up all over the city.

Today, Fontana is a thriving city with a diverse economy that includes manufacturing, logistics, and healthcare. It is also home to the Auto Club Speedway, a NASCAR-sanctioned racetrack that hosts multiple races throughout the year. With a population of over 213,000 people, Fontana is one of the largest cities in the Inland Empire region of Southern California.
