Empire is a small unincorporated community in the San Joaquin Valley region of Stanislaus County, California. The community is located just south of Modesto and is surrounded by agricultural lands. The population of Empire is around 4,200 people.
The town was originally named "Grand View" due to its location on a hill with commanding views of the surrounding countryside. The name was later changed to "Empire" after a colony of settlers from Kansas moved into the area in the early 1900s and established a farming community.
Today, Empire is primarily an agricultural community, with crops such as almonds, peaches, apricots, and grapes being grown in the surrounding area. The town has a post office, a few small businesses, and a handful of restaurants and cafes. It is also home to Don Pedro Reservoir, a popular destination for boating and fishing.
