Vallejo was named after General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo, a key figure in California's early years of independence from Spain. Here are a few facts and historical events related to Vallejo:

1. Vallejo is home to the oldest naval base on the West Coast, Mare Island Naval Shipyard, which was established in 1854.
